Tiffany Jackson is no stranger to hard work. By pursuing the study of medicine, she has remained true to her childhood passion for making a difference in the lives of others. After finishing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, Jackson is currently completing a fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Florida Hospital Celebration Health. No one would argue that extensive medical training takes serious commitment and drive. As Jackson says, “Medical training has been a long haul, and I am not finished yet, but my commitment to excellence and to being a leader in women's health care is unwavering.” Her extensive training will enable her to provide more options for patients who undergo surgery, to “decrease the morbidity they experience.” Her goals include improving the quality of life for many women.
When asked about the Ron Brown Scholar Program, Jackson maintains that the Program is much more than a scholarship. Her experience as a Ron Brown Scholar has provided her with mentoring and support, not only from fellow Scholars, but also from Friends of the Program. In fact, it may be those connections that helped to fuel her academic and professional journey: “I am always inspired by my fellow scholars, brilliant people who are committed to making a difference, and they encourage me to continue to work to be the best that I can be.” Most Ron Brown Scholars take leadership seriously and Jackson is no exception.
When asked what American leader she would most like to meet there was no hesitation in her answer: President Barack Obama. Of the President, Jackson says, “As a physician I understand working under pressure and I appreciate his calm leadership in the face of adversity and scrutiny and I am grateful for his attention to healthcare reform.” Another individual who has impacted Jackson’s life is her great-grandmother. She (her great-grandmother) “…was known for saying "talk is cheap!" I hope that I will be known not for the great things that I had to say, but rather for the good work that I was able to do helping people.”
Though she may want to be known for her actions, Jackson does offer a bit of important advice she received along the way, “Stay true to yourself.” These are wise words from a rising star and have clearly held deep meaning for Jackson.
